Para/Site
Central is a mini-gallery, run by Para/Site Art Space at the
corridor of Hanart TZ Gallery in Central. Its purpose is to
present the recent works of local artists. Pare/Site is delight
to present the recent works of TSE Yim On and Terrence CHEUNG
who were both selected for previous Hong Kong Art Biennale's.
In 1998, Tse's work was selected for the biennale and subsequently
collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Both of their works
are not only painting works but also present sophisticated
and different approaches to easel painting. Through their
works, we are allowed to comprehend their works in an alternative
way.
Engaging
with the mechanisms of reading, Tse started to create a different
series of artists' books. The format is neither a booklet
nor easel painting, instead, the painting style comprises
of painting and comic styles. Your eyes can "walk"
around the illustrations by free association and peer into
his unconscious. Instead of linear narration found in comics,
the significance of stream-of-consciousness constructs the
pagination among pictures.
Terrence's
works usually consists of several paintings installed in various
formats. This represents the inter-twist within pictorials,
while the crop-like and blur images in paintings imply the
fluidity, unconsciousness, chaos and fragmentation of memory.
The room of their imagination and the message of the paintings,
are hence extended through the viewers' own association. This
exhibition will unfold the artistic history of his works,
in order to realize the context of his recent works.
Para/Site
Central is sponsored by Hanart TZ Gallery. Co-ordinated by
Para/Site Art Space, aimed to expose and promote the new artistic
projects of emerging artists. We believe this is significant
to facilitate the contemporary art scene in Hong Kong.
