A group of local
young designers have got together and did 2 mixed-media installations
named 'cloud > rice' at the Hong Kong Arts Centre and 'SIZE cloud
rice, the 2nd crop' at the Fringe Club in May and October last year.
With the two themes, they tried to portray their thoughts and feelings
through their own points of view; at the same time, each of them
created their own ways to present the work with thorough considerations
of the unique space of the venues. With these exhibitions, they
are questioning the possibilities of a 2-dimensional medium in a
3-dimensional space on one hand, and trying to fulfill their beliefs
in the co-existence of the ideals and the reality on the other.
In July until
January next year, this group of local young designers will once
again hold their 3rd exhibition together. The name of the exhibition
is ¥W bits cloud rice, the 3rd crop' (¥W²É ¡ß¶³¦Ì¤T³y). There will be 7
young designers participating in this exhibition with each of them
showing for a month ( a total of 7 months for 7 designers) at the
Para/Site Central, small alternative exhibition space sponsored
by Hanart TZ Gallery in Central. As the theme (specifically the
Chinese title) does not suggest any conventional meaning, along
with the cultural and social context of 'cloud' and 'rice', there
will be a new 'crop' of imagination growing from these 7 young designers.
