Wilson Shieh 石家豪 (b. 1970)

Born in Hong Kong in 1970, Wilson Shieh has mastered his skill in working with the traditional Chinese gongbi style; an ancient method of ornate fine-brush painting that requires high technical ability. Instead of portraying typical subjects such as birds, flowers and sceneries, Shieh renders subjects from contemporary daily life, with contents of sexuality, role-play, costume play and cultural symbols presented in a humourous narrative approach. His selected exhibitions include The 3rd Chengdu Biennale (2007), The Pivotal Decade - Hong Kong Art 1997-2007 at Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester (2007), Contemporary Art of East Asia at San Diego Museum of Art (2004) and The 3rd Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at Queensland Art Gallery in Australia (1999). Public Collections include National Gallery in Washington D.C., Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane, Loewe Foundation in Madrid and Hong Kong Museum of Art.

One of the breakthrough stars of this year’s Art Basel by transposing a video installation that consists of a real train carriage from China to the exhibition space in Switzerland, Qiu Anxiong was born in 1972 and currently lives and works in Shanghai. Often utilising and juxtaposing animations with historical documentaries, fusing the unreal and the hyper-real images in his video installations and paintings, Qiu references and heightens the past and our collective memories to explore contemporary issues. Qiu has held solo exhibitions at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2007), Boers-Li Gallery in Beijing (2007), Hanart TZ Gallery in Hong Kong (2006 and 2002) and The Biz Art Centre in Shanghai (2005). Yuk King Tan 陳玉瓊 (b. 1972)

Yuk King Tan was born in Australia and currently lives and works in Seoul. Brought up in New Zealand, she received her B.F.A. from the University of Auckland in 1993. Tan’s work explores perennial human needs and desires in the context of the urgent economic development of industrial cities, through video, photography and a series of ‘drawings’. Created by a series of techniques, from burnt ash and digital photography to brush and graphic ink, the layering of her drawings draws on a history of mark making. They refer to architectural structures of cities - floating visions of shantytowns, oil refineries, high-density housing and temporary shelters. Yuk King Tan has had several major solo and group exhibitions, most importantly at the Camden Arts Centre in London, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, Kunstverein in Hamburg, Wellington City Gallery in New Zealand and the Hong Kong Arts Centre. She has also participated at International Biennials in Queensland, Vilnius, Auckland and Sao Paulo.

Ouyang Chun 歐陽春 (b. 1974)

Ouyang Chun was born 1974 in Beijing, where he currently works and resides. Unlike most artists working in China today, Ouyang is a self-taught painter with minimal academic training. This unique quality ensures that his paintings, drawings, installations and the so-called ‘painting installations’ retain a strong identity of child-like aesthetic. He often conceals serious issues in his work with an apparently innocent manner, which provokes and challenges the viewer’s understanding of his chosen subject matters. Ouyang has exhibited in museums such as Zendai Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai (2006), Today Art Museum in Beijing (2005), He XiangNing Art Museum in Shenzhen (2005 and 2004). William Lim 林偉而

William Lim is an acclaimed architect and the managing director/owner of CL3 Architects Ltd. in Hong Kong. Lim is also an experimental photographer whose primary interest lies in the city's architecture and urban environment. His practice creates a strong sense of the passage of time with a blurred or unsettled painterly image, a quality that is rarely found in conventional photography. Following his graduation from Cornell University, Lim worked in Boston for 5 years before returning to Hong Kong in 1987, at which time he took up position at a Hong Kong developer for 6 years. In 1993, he established CL3, and the company has grown from a tiny Hong Kong studio to an award-winning design firm with liaison offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Lim has participated in the Hong Kong Pavilion of The 10th Venice Architecture Biennial in 2006.

In recent years, he has been involved in many public projects at various venues, including the equestrian event in the occasion of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in Hong Kong, Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and Olympic Park in Korea. Koh’s work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions worldwide such as the MuHKA Museum in Antwerp, Wien Secession in Austria, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Kunsthalle Zurich [4] in Switzerland and The Royal Academy in London.
